112km/hr is an idiotic drive time suggestion.
Typical drive time between Christchurch and Dunedin is safely around 5-5.5 hours excluding stops - you would want at least 1-2 stops of around 15-30 minutes as driving on NZ roads is far more tiring compared to overseas driving, in my experience.

I drive NZ state highways a lot and the average speed would typically be in the range of 60-65 km/h over a long trip (200-400km). You might make it to 70 km/hr in exceptional situations. Unlike US roads or European highways, NZ state highways go through towns and cities, not around them, with posted road speeds frequently dropping to 50 km/hr and stopping at lights and intersections.
Also, NZ roads are not designed for high speed driving in camber and cornering and they are largely single-lane with only occasional passing lanes, so overall traffic speeds are defined by the slowest vehicle traveling.

It is illegal to drive faster than 100kmph on NZ roads. The roads between Christchurch and Dunedin are single lanes separated by painted markings. They are not highways by overseas standards.

Why would you suggest anyone travel at an average speed of 112 km/h when the MAXIMUM legal speed limit is 100 km/h?
