Over 60 years ago I travelled form Chatham to Newcastle upon Tyne a number of times using my moped which was 30 cc and I did the journey in about 15 hours normally, but once in about 13 hours. It was not so easy as I was so tired by the time I reached Leeds and Doncaster. I travelled at 20 to 30 miles per hour and used about four gallons of petrol. I stood up on the pedals many times as my backside was so flattened by sitting on the seat for those large number of hours. The weather was always fine and I was always surprised at the night sky light where I had no difficulty driving during the night. Pleasant days when I worked at Chatham Dockyard and attended the University at Newcastle.
The road maps shown here does bring back memories and I drove on the coast roads occasionally passing Alenmouth and other small fishing villages. Happy times. Thank you for this map.
